The Augustinian family

The Order of St. Augustine is founded by Pope Alexander IV in 1256, bringing together all the communities of hermits who followed the Rule of St. Augustine. In the same year, in Cascia, on top of the hill on which the town stands, there is already an Augustinian hermitage.

In 1330, we have the first certain news of two female Augustinian monasteries: those of St. Mary Magdalene and Saint Lucia. Today, the Augustinian Order is present in over 50 countries.
