The “Alveare” or The Beehive is a reality that is part of Saint Rita’s Monastry and it doesn’t receive any economic help nor from the State and any Municipality, it is completely free, thanks to many benefactors who give their help to all the girls.
It was built in 1938 by Blessed Mary Teresa under the name “ Alveare Santa Rita” (Saint Rita’s Beehive), because as the legend reminds, while Rita was in her cradle, she was surrounded by some bees without stings, and today they still live inside the Monastry’s walls. It was created as a orphanage and it has gathered only teenagers female orphans.

TODAY:
It welcomes only under 18 girls who live difficult situations helping them in any difficulty. It has created an helping net for families with young kids to face social, economic and monoparental problems, especially for immigrants and all new kind of families that are even more part of our social reality.The girls are lovely welcomed, the educational project involves also the social territorial welfare, the workers of the Alveare and one or both parents. The project “ Millefiori” is part of the Alveare,
and it works as a halfresidential aid to which 30 boys and girls take part.

THE BULDING
The structure of the Alveare has been opened in 1952, realized
using building criteria of the 50’s. It is big, bright and
welcoming and it can hold 60 children.
