THE HEADMISTRESS' S WORDS

This was due to comply with familiar needs such as temporary jobs, parents desease, crisis inside the family.
I remember I found difficult to make some families understand the importance of learning for their girls. When they finished the “terza Media” , most of them went back home and only few of them attended High Schools. The nuns understood the girls’ needs and gave them the opportunity to attend high schools of this territory, or they could attend secondary schools for the training of Primary teachers and nurses in some towns near Cascia.
How did the girls arrive here at the Beehive? Some were sent by the priests’ request, by the Caritas, by the Social services, by the families or the request made by the Court.
In 1979 there was an earthquake and Cascia suffered many damages. The Beehive is a strong and sturdy building, had only some little damages because it wsa built using good building materials thanks to the charity of many benefactors. Because of the earthquake, many families have no homes and many children have no schools.
I remember when the Director of Education Prof. Giuseppe Maria Grande came and asked the Abbess to hold a part of the schools. He thanked the nuns for their helpfulness.
