The first foundation stone of the present Sanctuary was laid on the 20th of June 1937 by the Cardinal Henry Gasparry; the Church was consecrated on the 18th of May 1947 and elevated to Basilica by Pius XII on the 1st of August 1955. the original project of Mgr. Spirito Chiapetta was, the, modified by G. Calori and G. Martinenghi.
