THE INWARD PART OF THE BASILICA

The inside, Greek cross-shaped, is made by a central cupola and 4 apsides. The pillars support the women's gallery reserved to the contemplative augustinian nuns. Along the walls, at man height, there is the beautiful Via Crucis of Pellini, in ornamental white marble panels. The big walnut wooden pulpit, well visible, was made by the sculptor Emil Monti, while on the floor, in the middle of basilica, there are the armorial bearings of Pius XII, in polychromic marbles. All the components form a very nice ensemble, impressively bright; it's a church filled with light and colours, but, in the meantime, plunged into a deeply mystic atmosphere.
