    PENITENTIARY

The next step takes to the hall of prep’aration for confession; on the wall some marble panels , with designs and sentences, help the reflection. It is possible to watch a film-show lasting about 10 minutes.
The confessionals are placed in two chapels; they are small and confortable rooms.
In the middle of the first chapel, there are the Crucifix and the ambon, while in the other one, there is a luminous display, where sentences from Holy Scripture appear regularly. There are priest confessors speaking the most common languages besides italian.
The pilgrim arrives at the end of the penitential path. Inside a niche , he finds the mantle, the sac and the boots of the prodigal son. In this very symbolic way, the artist wanted to express the decision of the son of abandoning his sinful life ways and becoming a new creature.

The last act of the penitential path is the joyful gratitude for reconciliation. In fact, the pilgrim reaches the thanksgiving hall, wher a statue of the resurrected Christ , a work by Marrocco, rests in the middle, within a beautiful flight of seagulls. On the wall, there is this inscription: “ there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance” ( Lk 15,7)
